Walton Homes boosts Rugeley Cats Society’s work with £500 donation

20 December 2015

Walton Homes has donated £500 to Rugeley Cat Society to help meet veterinary fees as part of its ongoing anniversary 30 Wishes support initiative.

The family-owned business announced its intention earlier this year to mark its 30th anniversary by granting the wishes of 30 Midlands organisations, charities or individuals.

The donation to Rugeley Cats Society was organised in conjunction with Number 1 Vets in the town, a practice which works closely with the society to care for those neglected and abandoned cats the charity takes in.

Founded in 2013 by Sallie Young, after her own cat went missing, the charity has to date re-homed 341 cats, reunited 217 lost and missing cats with their owners and provided veterinary treatment to countless cats and kittens in its care.

Sallie said: “2015 has been, without a doubt, the worst yet for abandoned kittens and cats. The amount of messages received via our Facebook page have been astonishing and even though there are four core people involved in the charity now, it has sometimes been a struggle to meet the demand for our services.

“We are totally committed to providing the best possible care for our cats, and James Cadwallader of Number 1 Vets and his team of veterinary nurses are amazing. All the cats are taken there, nothing is too much trouble for them, and the cats get the best care there is. The £500 donation from Walton Homes will be used to pay for the vital care he and his team provide to ensure the cats in our charge are healthy.

“Nobody who works at Rugeley Cats Society gets paid. Nobody claims expenses. Every penny raised goes to the cats we have in care, and donations such as this go a very long way to helping us keep these cats healthy and safe,” she added.

Amy Summerton, director of Walton Homes added: “Veterinary care is a very expensive necessity and we were impressed to hear how much support Number 1 Vets has given to this organisation. We wanted to do our bit to ensure that the kittens and cats Sallie and her team at Rugeley Cats Society continue to get the love and care they need. The charity does a very worthwhile job and we’re proud to be supporting them. We wish Sallie and her team the very best in continuing to help neglected cats and reunite those that are lost with their owners.”
