Housebuilder Walton Homes has reported renewed interest at its new Staffordshire development after the area was named as one of the best places in the UK to bond with nature.
The developer said that ever since The Times newspaper listed Doxey Marshes as one of the top 30 places in the UK to see nature up close, there had been increased enquiries around properties at its Creswell Croft development, located a stones-throw from the nature reserve.
The wetland oasis and Nature Reserve is a haven for bird-watchers thanks to the possibility of seeing rare species of bird, and a favourite spot for hikers and dog-walkers, many of whom are attracted to the idea of being able to call the area home.
Sarah Summerton, Director, said: “Construction at Creswell Croft is now close to completion, and we’ve been very pleased with the response to the development. As a Staffordshire-based business, we needed no introduction to the beauty of the nature reserve, and we were delighted when we were able to purchase a land-parcel close-by and secure planning permission to site our development there, but we’ve had a real spike in enquiries since the reserve was featured in The Times earlier this year.
“Much of the success we’ve had at the site has been centred around the fact that the historic village of Creswell is a highly sought-after area, offering both a countryside setting and close proximity to the busy town of Stafford and all of its amenities, but it with so many visitors honing in on the area to try and see some of the rare bird species inhabiting the reserve, it seems some of those are keen to make it their home too.
Doxey Marshes attracts many rare birds each year, with the first ever Cat 200 species being recorded at the site. With more than 80 breeding species at the Nature Reserve, it has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its important populations of Lapwing, Snipe and Redshank.
Sarah added: “We’ve been flattered by the compliments we’ve received about the properties we’ve built to date. I think there was initially some concern about a development being sited so close to the beauty spot, but in light of it being so small, with just 14 three- and four-bedroom homes, and that we’re careful to be sympathetic to the local environment and ensure all of the house designs are complementary to it, the houses have been very well received.”
Creswell Croft offers nine different house-types, each with well-planned, high-specification interiors and traditional facades in-keeping with the rural setting.
