Walton Homes Races To Support Local Marathon Runner’s Fundraising Efforts

1st May 2024

Family-run housebuilder Walton Homes has thrown its support behind its local community, sponsoring a resident in her participation in the London Marathon 2024.

Michelle Minshall, who lives in Walton Homes’ Acresford Park development in Handsacre, ran the marathon in an impressive 4 hours and 56 minutes as part of the Roy Runners for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, in memory of her mother who sadly passed away in 2018.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the leading UK lung cancer charity and has raised millions of pounds for essential lung cancer research, looking for ways to detect the disease as early as possible.

With Walton Homes’ support, Michelle has already surpassed her initial fundraising goal of £2,200 – to date, Michelle has raised a very impressive £3,500! Along with a donation to the cause, Walton Homes has supported Michelle throughout her journey, providing a pair of personalised Walton Homes X Roy Castle training tops.

Michelle says: “Running the London Marathon has truly been a gruelling, yet rewarding, experience – it’s been the achievement of a lifetime. It’s been extremely important for me to be able to raise money for the deadly condition, which is one the leading types of cancer within both men and women in the UK.[1] My mum has always been a hard worker and has always been about the community, so to me, this is everything that I think she would want me to do. I definitely got my work ethic from her; she was always working her absolute socks off.”

“Walton Homes support throughout has meant a lot to me; my family have a longstanding relationship with the company, as my father-in-law worked as a security guard at one of the developments at Armitage, and my husband and I already knew Acresford Park would be our home when the planning went in. It does feel like a full 360-moment.”

Amy Summerton, Director at Walton Homes, says: “Here at Walton Homes, we strive the help create real communities for our residents, and we always want to support charities as much as we can, whether they’re large or small. When we heard about Michelle’s amazing endeavour, we were thrilled to be able to support her along the way. We have been so impressed to see her commitment and dedication to reaching – and now exceeding – her fundraising target for such a worthy cause.”
