Trend Feature: Biophilic Design

27th May 2021

Yes you heard right…quite possibly one of the biggest trends this year looks to bridge the gap between human beings and our surroundings.

Biophilia means love of nature and this term in home design is used to merge human attraction with nature and natural processes.

Incorporating direct or indirect elements of nature into the home has been said to help reduce stress, blood pressure levels and heart rates, whilst increasing productivity, creativity and wellbeing. So with us all spending more time at home why not create an environment that does you good!

Biophilic Colour

The simplest way to incorporate this trend into your home and enhance a homes connection to nature is through colour. No we’re not talking about a simple pop of colour as a feature wall, its about flow and complementary colours. Take your favourite landscape image (like the example below) and pick out 4 or 5 colours from it to create a sympathetic pallet to use throughout your home.

Biophilic Textures

Next up, focus on natural textures that are going to add warmth and tone to the room, be inspired by nature and opt for wood, cotton, leather, wool and wicker which can be incorporated through furniture or soft furnishings. Remember it is important to keep and maintain your personal style. Add that finishing touch with fresh or even dried flowers to complete the look.
