Couple’s dream of downsizing blooms

Seven years after moving into their dream home, downsizers Colin and Gillian share their experience with us.

Gillian reflects: “Looking forward, as many do, to retirement we always planned to retire to a more rural location. Once retired, we began our search, looking at a range of rural developments and builders. We knew of Rugeley and would visit family and friends, who lived here, quite often. During one of the visits, we noticed a building site had been earmarked for development for eleven detached homes. Walton Homes were identified as the developer, so we began enquiries.

“Once ground work started, we spoke with Chris, the site manager, to understand the layout, and discussed the way forward with Maria in the marketing suite once it was on site.

“On viewing the very high standard of finishing and the quality of materials being incorporated it was obvious that a Walton Homes property was for us. We continued to view other properties but would always return to this Walton Homes development, so as soon as bookings were available, we put down our deposit.

“The four-bedroom, open plan property we selected was perfect for our needs. Our Walton Homes included a full flooring package as an incentive to buy and we were also able to select many finishing options as we were buying ‘off-plan’, making our selection of home more personalised to our individual requirements.

“Our completion day came, handover went very smoothly, and we moved into our beautiful 4-bedroom detached home in time for Christmas 2018. We were then presented with a beautiful rose by Amy Summerton, which continues to thrive beautifully in our garden.

“We have now lived in our new home for seven years. Being fully retired we enjoy the many lovely walks that we have both in the surrounding area and beyond, including visiting the nearby Shugborough Estate. Colin enjoys photography and there are many opportunities on our walks. I enjoy baking and maintaining our lovely garden, which we designed and created from scratch. We are now both directors of the development’s management team and take pride in and enjoyment in looking after our small but close community.

“We absolutely love living here, right on the outskirts of Cannock Chase and have found our new home very cosy, comfortable and easy to look after.

“We chose this home as our ‘forever home’ and definitely have no intentions of moving again, but I’m sure that if we did, we would have no hesitation in choosing Walton Homes again. We would always recommend Walton Homes to family and friends.”
