Everything looks rosy for new Rugeley residents

A couple who have just relocated to Rugeley were given a warm welcome to the town by developers Walton Homes, with the gift of a rose-bush that their house was named after.

Colin and Gillian Overton-Fox moved into their dream home at Walton Homes’ exclusive Rugeley development Hathorn Manor last month after carrying out extensive research into the area, and were officially welcomed to the neighbourhood by the business.

The couple, who relocated from Solihull, had been planning to move to a more rural setting for some time, and said that when they discovered that the land Wolsley Road had been earmarked for new homes more than two years ago they started their research and securing their plot at the earliest opportunity.

Colin said: “We have family in this area  so when we found out that the land had been acquired, we didn’t know who the developer would be, or what kind of properties were involved, and while we looked at a number of other potential sites to relocate to, we kept coming back to Rugeley as our ideal spot.

“As soon as we found out Walton Homes were the developers, we made contact, viewing the plans for all 11 homes and carrying out a lot of research – right up to finding out which way the sun rose and set so that we could pick the perfect plot, and then we made our early-bird reservation the first chance we could.”

Gillian added: “We moved in about a month ago and we are so glad we stuck to our first choice. The people of Rugeley are so friendly and welcoming; there is a real sense of belonging and community here that I think is pretty rare to find now.

“We were lucky enough to have been involved in the building of our home from the very start, first visiting the site when it was just stakes in the ground, and then revisiting every step of the way. While we were able to choose many of the finishes and fittings ourselves – right down to the support from the site manager Chris to discuss if we could have sockets placed in a certain way to accommodate the way we planned to lay our rooms out, we’re really enjoying choosing all of the furniture and final touches now we’re in situ to put our own stamp on the place.

“We have been absolutely delighted with the high quality of the build and the luxurious specification of the finishes – we have been so excited about moving into our new home and when we set foot through the door it exceeded all of our expectations. We’re really looking forward to spending our very first Christmas here,” she added.

Each of the 11 individually designed homes at Hathorn Manor were named after a different David Austin Roses variety of rose, with the couple choosing the four-bedroom Rosemoor house for their Forever Home. This week, Walton Homes visited the Overton-Foxes to present them with a moving in gift of a David Austin Roses Rosemoor rose bush.

Amy Summerton, Director of Walton Homes, said: “It’s so lovely to hear such wonderful feedback about our homes. It’s rare that we get to see a property once the keys have been handed over and to see Gillian and Colin so happy in their new home was fantastic.

“I can see that they’re really embracing local life and they’re going to be delighted to welcome their neighbours as they move into Hathorn Manor and build their own little community.

“We wanted to present the Overton-Foxes with a little something to mark this next chapter of their lives, and we hope that once they have planted it, it will continue to bloom year-after-year as they enjoy their home and garden,” she added.

Four homes are still available at Hathorn Manor, with the Winchester Showhome open to visit Thursday to Monday 11am-5pm. For more information call the sales centre on 01889 585980.
