Enjoying life on the sunny side of the site!

They say home is where the heart is, and there might not be a truer word spoken when it comes to David and Gillian Sutton, who are very happily settled within The Haywood at our Woodwinds development in Warton.

The couple have lived in the village all of their lives, and prior to moving into The Haywood, owned a property on Little Warton Road, where they lived for 50 years, raising their family there.

When Walton Homes started to plan the development, access to the proposed site was narrow and ran alongside the couple’s boundary, so the business approached David about a parcel of land that he owned to the rear of his home which was used for farming ancillary buildings to see if they could purchase it from him.

As a result, to bring about the luxurious 50-home development, David and Gillian agreed to sell their property to Walton Homes as part of the land deal, with the agreement that they had first refusal on a home at Woodwinds when construction commenced.

“We’ve always lived in the village, and prior to selling, we’d lived in our home since 1972,” said David. “When Walton Homes started to scope out the site, we visited other developments and we’d seen The Haywood in use as a show-home, so we knew it’s potential –  exactly how spacious it was and what a high specification we could expect it to be completed to.”

It was Gillian who had her sights set on Plot 14.

“The whole customer service process was seamless, and we’re absolutely thrilled to be here”

“Plot 14 was located at precisely my favourite part of the field where David used to work on the farm,” she said. “It’s a beautiful, sun-filled spot and somewhere I’d always said I’d love to live.

“The beauty of having lived here for so long as that we knew the field like the backs of our hands, so we knew where the sun rose and set, and that was really important to us when it came to moving into our dream new home,” she added.

The couple moved in with their daughter Claire for eleven months while the site was developed and their new home was built, regularly visiting Woodwinds to meet with site manager and view its progress, eventually moving in last November.

“We probably visited the site every week to see how things were progressing as we lived so close by and we were so excited to see it all happening,” said David. “We built up a great relationship with Carl Brough, the site manager for Woodwinds, who went above and beyond throughout to keep us informed of the build process and to ensure all of our specifications were being met.”

The impressive five-bedroom property was built to David and Gillian’s specification, with them helping to design the kitchen, choosing flooring and tile finishes, and ensuring that the garden was turfed and ready for them to start landscaping – something they’re now undertaking with gusto!

“The whole customer service process was seamless, and we’re absolutely thrilled to be here. Our other daughter, Gemma, is now a huge Walton Homes fan too, and has just bought a property on the same development, so we’re all staying true to our roots,” said Gillian.
