WALTON HOMES SUPPORTS SCOUT GROUP’S QUACKING FUNDRAISING EVENT

15th June 2022

Housebuilder Walton Homes has joined forces with a Staffordshire scout group to sponsor a charity duck race later this month.

The business has teamed up with the 1st Armitage Scout Group to sponsor the event, which will take place on June 18th as part of the Armitage with Handsacre Village Day.

Amy Summerton, Director, said: “This annual event has been much-postponed in recent years due to Covid, so there is a huge amount of excitement around it this year, with the organisers pulling all the stops out to ensure it it bigger and better than ever before, and with special events to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

“The 1st Armitage Scout Group contacted us as a result of our Acresford Park development, which is based in the village, and asked us if we’d like us to get involved. We are big advocates of supporting the communities where we site our properties, and we were very happy to pledge our support to this event.

“The scout group is a big part of village life, and we have offered to donate cash prizes to them for the winners of the race. The Walton Homes team will definitely be buying duck numbers of our own and cheering them along!” she added.

Tammy Jackson, of the scout group, said: “There is a real buzz around this year’s event due to the fact it’s not been held since 2019. It’s an opportunity for the whole village to come together and celebrate, and it’s a great chance to raise awareness of all the voluntary groups operating here.

“The 1st Armitage Scout Group has 120 local children aged between six and 14, and the group is  currently fundraising for new camping equipment to use on our many trips. The duck race traditionally was held at the end of our group camp in July, where a local farmer, Mr Foster -Johnson allowed us to camp on his field and we raced the duck along his brook, but as our numbers grew we had to find another camp site to accommodate us all.

“But this year, with so much excitement around the event, we decided to race the ducks along the village brook, and with 2,000 little yellow ducks to race, it should be quite a spectacle! We’ve had a lot of support village and we are thrilled that Walton Homes have kindly donated three prizes of £100, £50 and £25 for the first three places. With the ducks being sold for £1 each, the proceeds will be a huge boost for the group,” she said.
