Walton Homes reports rise in cost-savvy first time buyers

19th July 2012

Walton Homes is giving first time buyers the chance to purchase a family sized house at its Priory Point development in Handsacre for the same price as an average apartment in the West Midlands, as more and more house hunters look to make their money go further.

For a limited time only a three bedroom detached home can be purchased for just £135,960 at the residential site on Lichfield Road, marking a 20 per cent saving off the original £169,950 list price.

The saving can be made when one of the four remaining houses at Priory Point is purchased under Walton Homes’ popular equity loan scheme, Lion’s Share, designed to match the government’s FirstBuy initiative without having any strict criteria to meet.

Lion’s Share allows buyers to pay only 80 per cent of the value of their chosen house through a five per cent deposit and a conventional mortgage. Walton Homes will pay the remaining 20 per cent share, with the only requirement being that the 20 per cent interest free loan is paid back to the developer when the property is eventually sold on or after 10 years – whichever is sooner.

Helen Rollason, sales manager at Walton Homes said: “During the past few months it has become increasingly evident that whilst first time buyers are becoming more at ease with the current property market, they are constantly looking for ways in which they can get their dream home for a lower cost.

“This often means that first time buyers need to compromise on space or design – and it would appear that more and more people are prepared to not have a garden or garage until their second home. With the 20 per cent saving we are now offering at Priory Point, we are hoping that people won’t feel like they have to make these compromises and can actually buy a beautiful new home for much less than they expected.”

Recent statistics by Rightmove.com state that the level of prospective first-time buyers is at its highest for nearly three years, representing almost three in ten of those who expect to buy a property in the next 12 months

Helen continues: “The fact that there is an increasing number of first time buyers now looking to purchase a home in the next year shows that things are looking up for the property market but developers need to continue to respond to house hunters needs and offer them attractive deals to encourage the market to remain resilient.”

Priory Point boasts an impressive selection of just nine one and two bedroom apartments and five three bedroom family homes. All the homes have been built to a high specification and boast designer kitchens and bathrooms, alongside light and airy living areas.
