Granting wishes of youngsters at Burton-On-Trent School

23rd February 2016

Children at a Burton-on-Trent primary school will enjoy newly refurbished outdoor areas thanks to a £500 donation from Staffordshire-based housing developer Walton Homes.

Fountains Primary School, in Bitham Lane, Stretton, was presented with £500 after making a wish when the business launched its 30 Wishes campaign earlier this year.

The 30 Wishes initiative marks 30 years of house-building for the business, and will see Walton Homes grant wishes to organisations and those in need over the next 12 months.

As a school dedicated to educating and supporting children with special needs, Fountains School has been slowly refurbishing some of its outdoor areas in order to help engage with pupils and enhance their sensory experience.  The funds provided by Walton Homes will be used to overhaul one of these areas.

Amy Summerton, director for Walton Homes, said: “Many of us don’t realise the requirements such a school has in order to provide a high level of care to special needs students. The facilities at Fountains School, the staff, and the work they do, is just wonderful.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the school and learning more about how the money we donated would be used. The school has a number of outdoor areas, one for each classroom, and our contribution will be used to update and develop these areas.

“I hope that the children enjoy the refurbished areas and I’m looking forward to visiting them again when the work is finished to see the new-look spaces,” she added.

Nicola Price, head teacher, said: “On behalf of Fountains Primary School, we would like to thank Walton Homes for the very kind donation of £500 which we have put towards the development of our outdoor play area.
